This is an original Red Ensign Flag with a story to it, purchased from a lady in West Horsely, near Guilford. The Lady explained to us that the flag was her fathers (who had recently passed away) and it had been on the ship he captained which was used in the T.V series The Onedin Line. 
This very flag can be seen fluttering at the stern in many of the episodes.
